(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines City Council will vote tonight to approve a new contract with MidAmerican Energy. If approved the deal would allow MidAmerican to provide natural gas and electricity to homes in Des Moines for the next 13 years. If the deal isn't approved MidAmerican's current contract with the city would expire on June 15th. Des Moines would still be able to use MidAmerican but the city wouldn't get millions of dollars in annual franchise fees from the company. However the city council is expected to approve the deal.
