Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert announces that she and a long time friend have married.
In a personal message released by her office, the Mayor says she and Dr. J. Kevin O'Rourke were married in a private ceremony on Wednesday.
She says they met 45 years ago in St. Louis when he was in medical school at St. Louis University and the Mayor was a critical care nurse at St. Louis University Hospital.
The Mayor says her husband is an anesthesiologist, who completed his training at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
Stothert says as they moved around the country with families and careers, they remained friends.
She notes his friendship has been a great source of strength for her, especially over the last year.
Her husband, Dr. Joe Stothert, died in March of last year.
