(Des Moines, IA) -- Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, marks Primary Election Day in Iowa, where voters narrow the field of challengers in each political party. Early voting for the primary began May 18th and ended June 6th.

Iowans need to be registered with a political party to vote in the primary election. The State of Iowa offers a few ways to register, online, by mail, or at the polls.

Republicans and Democrats will see a few big names on the primary ballot. Republican U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is running for his eighth term in office. He's being challenged by Republican Iowa State Senator Jim Carlin. Three Democrats are also on the primary ballot to run for the seat, former Democratic Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, Michael Franken, and Glenn Hurst.

Three Republicans, Gary Leffler, Nicole Hasso, and Zach Nunn, are competing to run against Democratic Third District Congresswoman Cindy Axne.

The three other districts are seeing no competition in the primaries. This November, incumbent 1st District U.S. Congresswoman, Republican Ashley Hinson will face Democrat Liz Mathis; incumbent 2nd District U.S. Congresswoman, Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks will face Democrat Christina Bohannan; and incumbent 4th District U.S. Congressman, Republican Randy Feenstra will face Democrat Ryan Melton. All six are running unopposed in the June 7th primary elections.

Two Republican candidates are on the primary ballot for Iowa State Auditor, hoping to challenge incumbent Democrat Rob Sand in November. Additionally, two Democratic candidates are on the primary ballot for Secretary of State, to run against Republican Paul Pate in the General Election.

There are no primary challenges in the Iowa Governor's race.
