(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowan's outdoor plans could be washed out this weekend. The National Weather Service is predicting on and off showers throughout the weekend. Meteorologist Alex Krull says severe weather is not expected, but outdoor activities could be washed out.

He says the best chance for rain will come Sunday night into Monday morning, with widespread rain totals of 1-2 inches, and locally heavier amounts of 3-4 inches. He says depending on how much rain falls before Sunday, some parts of Iowa may experience minor flooding issues.

The rain would be welcome in many parts of Iowa. This week's U-S Drought Monitor Map shows an expanding area of abnormally dry conditions in several parts of the state. Two northwest Iowa counties, Plymouth and Woodbury have slipped into extreme drought.
