(Omaha, NE) -- An Omaha man accused of gunning down a woman last week makes his first court appearance.

On Tuesday, a Douglas County judge ordered that 20 year old Davon Brown be held without bond in connection to the shooting death of 26 year old Shalonna Houston. Friday morning, Omaha Police officers were called to the Florence Towers Omaha Housing Authority apartment building near Florence Boulevard and Browne Street for a shooting. Once on the scene, officers found Houston dead from a gunshot wound inside one of the apartments.

Court documents show that Brown was staying at the apartment at the time of the shooting. Prosecutors say a witness in the apartment told investigators that Brown went into a closet, pulled out a rifle and loaded it. The witness said he asked what Brown was doing, and told him to drop the rifle. Prosecutors say Brown then pointed the gun at Houston and fired, hitting the woman in the head.

Prosecutors say Brown reportedly asked the man to help him hide the body, but the witness refused. Brown then fled the apartment building.

Brown is charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm to commit a felony. He is scheduled to appear in court again on September 26th.
