(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Eastern Iowa public health leaders are encouraging people eligible to get vaccinated against the monkeypox virus as cases continue to rise in the U.S.

Because the vaccine is still limited in the state and nationally, Linn, Scott, Johnson, and Blackhawk Counties are working together to respond to the public health concern.

Due to the limited supply, people will have to sign up for a shot through their local county health department.

There have been 17 cases of monkeypox reported in Iowa.
