(Iowa City, Iowa) -- An Iowa City man charged with murdering his wife is preparing to plead guilty to a lesser charge.
Court documents say a plea hearing for Roy Browning, Jr. is set for this week, however the nature of the plea deal has not been released. Browning has been charged with his wife's murder in April of 2019 and was scheduled to go to trial next month. Investigators say the murder happened after Browning's wife JoEllen found discrepancies in their bank and savings accounts. JoEllen's body was later found with multiple stab wounds, leading to Browning being arrested and charged with her murder. Browning himself called authorities saying JoEllen was unresponsive.
