(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police are able to locate two stolen vehicles by using a laptop's locating feature.
LPD says around 9:45 Monday morning, officers were called to the 5000 block of R Street on the report of a stolen vehicle. The victim, a 22 year old man, reported unknown person(s) took his 2017 KIA Forte from the apartment complex parking lot. Investigators say the victim advised that the vehicle was unlocked, the keys were in the center console and that his MacBook laptop was also in the vehicle. Police say the victim was utilizing the MacBook's 'Find My Device' feature to track its movements. Police say the locations being provided were all over town, but no specific address was identified.
Police say around midnight Tuesday morning, the laptop appeared to settle in the 5100 block of Aylesworth Ave. Officers located the KIA and spotted a 16 year old boy and a 14 year old girl exit a nearby home and get into the car. They were taken into custody, but police say a search of the vehicle did not locate the stolen computer.
LPD say the computer continued to indicate it was nearby, so officers continued checking the area. Investigators say an additional stolen vehicle, 2008 Buick Enclave, was located parked on N 50th and Aylesworth – Holdrege with a 15 year old boy inside. A search of the Buick located the stolen computer. The Buick was confirmed as stolen out of Omaha on Monday.
The 15 year old was also taken into custody. The three juveniles were referred for Theft by Receiving and were lodged at the Youth Assessment Center
