DES MOINES, Iowa -- The state of Iowa could be getting nearly $20 million as part of a national opioid settlement with the nation's largest retailer

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller says the money's coming from a settlement with Walmart worth more than $3 billion.

Iowa and a number of other states sued the company, saying it contributed to the opioid crisis by failing to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its stores.

Miller's office says state attorneys general, attorneys representing local governments, and Walmart have agreed to this settlement, and it is now being sent to other states for review and approval.

He says 43 states have to sign on to the settlement, which could happen by the end of the year.

Miller says similar negotiations are also underway with Walgreens and CVS.
