(Lancaster County, NE) -- An Omaha teen is killed in a Lancaster County crash.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office says around 10:45 Friday morning, deputies were called to a two vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 6, east of Waverly. The sheriff's office says preliminary investigation indicates that an eastbound 2017 Volkswagen Jetta crossed the center line and hit a westbound 2019 Mack semi head-on. Investigators say the crash forced the semi to swerve off of the highway and enter the north ditch where it rolled. The Jetta came to rest in the south ditch.
The driver and sole occupant of the Jetta, 18-year-old Harrison Miller of Omaha, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi, 47-year-old John V. Tran of Lincoln, was trapped in the semi as a result of the crash and had to be extricated by fire personnel on scene. He was transported to Bryan Health West Campus in serious but stable condition. LSO says Tran’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The sheriff's office says alcohol and drug use is not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation by the Lancaster County Crash Reconstruction Team.
