(Omaha, NE) -- Omaha's oldest cemetery will honor veterans this weekend, but they need the public's help.
Prospect Hill Historic Cemetery and Arboretum says that they will be an official location for 2022’s Wreaths Across America project. This is the first year that the cemetery will participate in the national program.
Prospect Hill says at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17th, volunteers will assemble at Prospect Hill Cemetery, located near 33rd and Parker, to lay memorial wreaths on the graves of veterans. The original goal was to raise 340 wreaths to honor all veterans resting at Prospect Hill Cemetery. “We were late to the game” said Shannon Justice, a member of the Board of Trustees for Prospect Hill Historic Cemetery and Arboretum. Prompted by a local non-profit organization to consider joining the Wreaths Across America project, they only campaigned for a short time. “We campaigned for wreath sponsorships for 11 days. Receiving 130 sponsorships in that amount of time shows us how beloved the cemetery is to the community of Omaha”.
