- (Undated) -- Five Iowa food organizations will receive grants from The Wellmark Foundation. The Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) grants will go toward ending food insecurity across the state. The more than $310,000 will be split between the five Iowa groups and two others in South Dakota.
City of Atlantic: The MATCH grant will be used to expand the Mollett Park Community Garden, including installing educational signage and a shared produce stand. - CommUnity Crisis Services: The MATCH grant will be used to create a mobile pantry to help distribute healthy food to Johnson County residents.
- Dalla Terra Ranch Foundation: The MATCH grant will be used to improve roads, pathways, and transportation options for farmers in Earlham to help expand the organization’s reach.
- Des Moines Area Religious Council: The MATCH grant will be used to purchase two freezers for the Southside Food Pantry. It’ll also be used by the Healthier New Year Project to provide food boxes with fresh produce during the off-season.
- Eat Greater Des Moines: The MATCH grant will be used to purchase a refrigerated van to increase daily food deliveries.
The organizations have until March 1 to secure the dollar-for-dollar match the grants are contingent on.
