Winter Rain Eases Drought in Quad Cities Area

(Donahue, IA) -- The Quad Cities area is seeing more rain than usual this winter, providing some relief to drought conditions along the Mississippi river.

The region has gotten 1.12 inches of measurable water this January so far. Less than an inch is normal at this time of the year.

The rain has helped replenish low water levels in the Mississippi River and move barge traffic easier.

Meteorologists predict that more rain this winter will benefit farmers planting in the spring and continue to ease drought conditions in the area.
