(Des Moines, IA) -- The National Weather Service says an impactful winter storm is becoming more likely across portions of parts of southern and central Iowa on Wednesday night into Thursday.
Forecasters say moderate to heavy snow accumulations are possible across much of southern Iowa into portions of central and eastern Iowa during this time. Some areas could get between 4-7 inches of snow.
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for some of these areas where the heaviest snow is most likely along with increasing northwest winds and colder temperatures.
The Thursday morning commute is likely to be impacted across much of central into southern Iowa with slick roads and areas of blowing snow.
The Winter Storm watch will be in effect starting Wednesday night thru Thursday afternoon for the following counties: Jasper, Poweshiek, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Taylor, Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose, and Davis.
Forecasters say 4-7 inches of snow will be possible by Thursday afternoon and winds could gust as high as 35-miles per hour, producing areas of blowing snow.
