Iowa Voters To Weigh In On State Succession Rules

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa voters will be asked next year to decide whether future un-elected governors can hand pick their own successors.

State lawmakers have advanced the constitutional amendment to a vote in November, 2024.

This stems from controversy that followed then-Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds' succession to the Governor's Office in 2017.

She was able to hand pick a Lieutenant Governor when she took office, even though it was determined Adam Gregg could not then become governor.

The measure going to voters will make a clear line of succession.
