(Undated) -- An Italian company that makes auto parts is expanding to Ankeny. SPAL Automotive is planning a 160-thousand square-foot-building to make and assemble parts. The Iowa Economic Development Authority has approved a 200-thousand dollar forgivable loan and tax benefits for the project.
The City of Ankeny says construction is expected to start this fall on the site, on the SE side of Ankeny, east of I-35, in the Crosswinds Business Park, near Kreg Tool's headquarters. The building is expected to be complete by 2025.
SPAL-USA, Inc. is the North American subsidiary of Italian company SPAL Automotive Srl. The IEDA describes the company as a market leader in the design, manufacture, sales and distribution of products across all types of vehicles and equipment.
The existing sales and distribution center will be consolidated under the new structure. The project represents a $33.5 million capital investment and is expected to create 39 jobs, of which 15 are incented at a qualifying wage of $33.31 per hour. The board awarded the company a $200,000 forgivable loan and tax benefits through the High Quality Jobs program.
