(La Vista, NE) -- The family of a missing La Vista boy files suit against the Papillion-La Vista School District.
Ryan Larsen's mother, Tammi, filed suit against the school district claiming that La Vista West Elementary School staff allowed Ryan to walk out the school, made no attempts to stop him from leaving the school and didn't go to find the boy after he disappeared in May 2021. The suit claims that staff "acted in bad faith, used gross misjudgment, and were deliberately indifferent" toward Ryan's needs. Larsen's mother states that the boy had previously left school, and suffered from autism, seizures and Tourette’s Syndrome.
Earlier this year, a Sarpy County judge threw out another case filed by Tammi Larsen that was seeking to legally declare Ryan dead. In throwing out the case, the judge said that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that Ryan was dead, rather than alive. Tammi Larsen had filed that motion in order to file the current suit against the school district. Although the motion to declare Ryan dead was thrown out, the Larsen family still went forward with the suit against the Papillion-La Vista School District.
Ryan's mother is seeking an undisclosed amount of money for damages.
