Omaha-Council Bluffs Ozone Levels Watched

The air quality forecast issued today by the Douglas County Health Department projects ground-level ozone concentrations at the far upper end of the Moderate range of the Federal Air Quality Index and in the lower end of the Moderate range for Thursday.

With that in mind, the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency declares today and tomorrow as "Ozone Action Days."

The agency says "Ozone Action Days" are when ozone levels are rated “moderate."

"MAPA" says elevated ozone concentrations may pose a health risk to people with chronic respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is over a large part of the Midwest, but one National Weather Service Meteorologist says most of the smoke is high up in the atmosphere and not at the breathable ground level.
