Special Olympics Iowa Summer Games Underway In Ames

(Ames, IA) -- The Special Olympics-Iowa Summer Games are underway in Ames. President and CEO John Kliegl says 22-hundred athletes ranging in age from 8 to 77 are competing in a wide range of sports. Some of the events include: swimming, cycling, bocce , track & field, soccer, and tennis to name some. Athletes competing in the state games, received 1st place at their area competitions.

Kliegl says more than 12-hundred dedicated volunteers will be helping the games run smoothly.

Competition began Thursday and will end tomorrow (Saturday).

Special Olympics Iowa also has Winter Games in Dubuque, a Spring Classic in Iowa City, Bowling in the fall, and this year will host a Fall Classic in West Des Moines.
