Iowa Baseball Earns No. 2 Seed In NCAA Tourney

(Undated) -- The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team has earned a No. 2 seed in the N-C-Double-A tourney. Iowa will face No. 3 North Carolina Friday June 2nd, at the Terre Haute, Indiana Regional.

­­The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (CT). No. 1 seed Indiana State faces No. 4 Wright State at Noon.

This will be Iowa's third NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Rick Heller and the sixth in school history. The Hawkeyes earned an at large selection to the tournament after finishing third in the Big Ten and runner up at the Big Ten Tournament. Iowa is 42-14 overall – the 42 wins are the second-most victories in school history.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the regional’s 3 seed after winning 35 games.

North Carolina has a .285 team batting average and averages 7.5 runs per game. The Tar Heels are led by Tomas Frick with a .329 batting average and Hunter Stokley with a .323 average. Along with Frick and Stokley, three other North Carolina regulars hit above .300. On the mound, the Tar Heels have a 4.73 team ERA and 502 strikeouts over 504 2/3 innings.

Terre Haute Regional tickets will go on sale to the general public via the Indiana State ticket office starting Tuesday, May 30, at 4 p.m. ET.

The University of Iowa baseball team lost to Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field-Omaha.
