(Lincoln, NE) -- A lawsuit is filed against Nebraska's new trans youth and abortion ban law.
LB 574, the 'Let Them Grow' Act, put restrictions on gender transitioning medical services for anyone under the age of 19. An amendment to the bill also bans abortions in Nebraska after 12-weeks. On Tuesday, the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Nebraska filed a lawsuit claiming that the bill and amendment violate the Nebraska Constitution.
The suit claims that the newly passed law addresses two unrelated issues, and states that the Nebraska State Constitution lays out that, “no bill shall contain more than one subject.” The suit says that Nebraska State Senators failed to recognize that the bill and amendment didn't adhere to the single subject requirement.
