Nebraska Legislature passes Voter ID bill

(Lincoln, NE) -- A Voter ID Bill is headed to the desk of Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen.

On Thursday, the Nebraska Legislature passed LB514 in a 38-1 vote. The bill details acceptable forms of ID voters must present in order to vote. The lone "No" vote came from Senator Julie Slama, who previously said she didn't think the bill put enough restrictions in place for what was an acceptable for of ID and for mail-in voting. Valid photo IDs that will be accepted to vote include driver's licenses, passports, student and tribal IDs.

Nebraskans passed a ballot measure requiring voter ID in 2022. Once signed, the bill is expected to take effect with elections starting April 1, 2024.
