DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Emerald Ash Borer has been found in yet another Iowa county.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the insect was most recently found in Plymouth County, in Northwest Iowa.
They say that leaves Emmet and Palo Alto--both in Northern Iowa--as the last of Iowa's 99 Iowa counties without EAB detection.
The larval stage of the Emerald Ash Borer tunnels through the wood just beneath the bark of ash trees, cutting off the tree’s ability to transport water and nutrients.
The cumulative damage typically kills a tree within two to four years after becoming infested.
The Agriculture Department says the Emerald Ash Borer was first discovered in Iowa's Allamakee County in 2010.
