Des Moines Arts Festival Hosts Second Day, Despite Rain

Onlookers gather as Kelsey James from Urbandale performs with the group 28 Days Later of Norwalk at the Des Moines Arts Festival Main Stage Saturday afternoon.

(Des Moines, IA) -- Large crowds showed up Saturday for the Des Moines Arts Festival's second day, despite rain in the area. The event brought people who had come in previous years, along with new visitors.

"I like it, the food is really good and all the art is insanely awesome," says Marlee Rubner of Des Moines, who came to the event for the first time Saturday with her mother and a friend.

Besides the many works of art on display and wide variety of food, several nationally known and local bands performed throughout the festival. Jeff Hyman from Degy Entertainment was recruited to hire musicians to perform on stage. "You have an incredible amount of talent here in Iowa, so they take advantage of as much of the local and regional talent as they can, " Hyman said. "We're kickin', it's a lot of fun here." He says it's his fifth year working with the Des Moines Arts Festival.

The event takes place throughout Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines, and lasts through 5 P.M. Sunday afternoon.
