Iowa Home Sales Rise In April, Still Lag Behind 2022

(Des Moines, IA) -- Home sales in Iowa rose nearly 30-percent last month compared to April. The Iowa Association of Realtors says, however, sales are still 13-percent lower compared to a year ago. The median sale price for a single family home in Iowa is $225,500, up 2.5% over last year.

The Iowa Association of Realtors says 4,030 homes went on the market in May, which was a 14% increase from April. The organization says 3,102 homes sold in May compared to 2,387 in April.

The pending sales of 3,197 homes represents a 26.6% decrease from May 2022. The short-term comparison came with a moderate 4.4% increase for month-over-month pending sales. 

The days on the market increased year-over-year to 41 days compared to the 31 day average of May 2022. More recently the average days on market decreased from the average 46 days of April. Median sales prices increased 2.5% year-over-year to $225,500.

The Iowa Association of Realtors monthly report also includes data about townhouses and condos, as well as data by county and region.
