(Undated) -- Iowa is one of the top 10 most independent states in America. That's according to WalletHub, which ranks Iowa 10th based on five factors of dependency. Those are then broken down into 39 key indicators of independence in order to determine which states are most self-sustaining. WalletHub says Iowa's best category is its long-term unemployment rate, ranking 3rd-lowest in the country. Iowa also ranks in the top 10 for low government dependency, job-market dependency, and industry variety. WalletHub says the most independent state is Utah and the least is Louisiana.
