(Undated) -- The Iowa State Patrol says troopers were busy over the weekend dealing with speeders. One was clocked going 131 miles per hour. Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla says there were also numerous reports of drivers without proper licensing and insurance, drivers not wearing seat belts, and drivers operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Sergeant says the trend of speeding is a major problem in Iowa and across the country. He says the trend has led to deadly crashes in Iowa and elsewhere.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a campaign called "Speeding Wrecks Lives.” The government reports while there has been a slight drop in overall roadway deaths, speeding fatalities reached a 14-year high in 2021 and makeup almost one-third of all traffic fatalities.
