During this heat wave, Metropolitan Utilities District is asking customers for help by temporarily limiting outdoor water use, including watering lawns, while the utility repairs a main break at the Florence Water Works along the river in northeast Omaha.
This also includes filling swimming pools, hosing down driveways, and running decorative fountains.
The district says watering new sod is okay.
As part of restrictions, M.U.D. will stop hydrant flushing and main filling and comply with all designated restrictions at its facilities.
In addition, M.U.D. will ask the City of Omaha and other municipalities, including wholesale water customers served by M.U.D., to voluntarily comply with watering restrictions, curtail sewer flushing, lake filling, firefighting drills, street cleaning, and other non-essential uses of water.
The District expects this to be a temporary situation until the repairs are made and the main can be returned to service.
