The job of filling an open seat on the Omaha City Council begins now that Vinny Palermo has officially been removed.
Palermo has been absent since April 25th, in jail awaiting trial on fraud and conspiracy charges, and after three months of unexcused absences from council meetings, the city charter allowed for his removal this week.
He has pled not guilty to the charges;
Applications for the District Four council seat will be accepted until 3 p.m. August 15th, with public interviews before the City Council on September 7th.
The council will appoint a new member on September 12th, with a swearing in ceremony later in the month.
