(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Officials with the Brucemore mansion in Cedar Rapids say the mansion was not damaged by fire Thursday, August 17th. The Cedar Rapids Fire Department received a call from the Brucemore security system Thursday and first responders arrived and detected smoke in the attic. The source was quickly extinguished. The cause is under investigation, but early inspection of the mansion detected no fire damage. There were no injuries.

“We are proud of the swift response by CRFD, our contractors, and staff during this event,” said Acting Director and Chief Operating Officer Tara Richards, “We appreciate the support shown by our community and look forward to reopening the mansion to the public soon.”

Tours have been canceled for August 18, 19, and 20 to give Brucemore staff time to vent and clean the mansion. Performances of Theatre Cedar Rapids' A Little Night Music will continue as scheduled.
