(Sioux County, IA) -- Iowa banks are being warned about a fraud scheme. The Sioux County Sheriff's Office says on Friday, September 1st, entered several banks and presented phony checks for cash. Investigators say four to six people enter a bank and present checks printed on high-quality paper with bank routing numbers. The suspects reportedly wore hats, face coverings, and other items to disguise their identities

The suspects conducted the fraud at banks in Alvord, Hull, Orange City, and Sioux Center.

Investigators say the suspects would enter the bank lobby and present checks for cash and then another new group of 4-6 people would enter in the same manner in an attempt to overwhelm the bank employees.

Anyone who has information about the case is asked to contact the Sioux County Sheriff's Office.
