Quad Cities International Airport May Introduce New Commercial Spaceport

(Moline, IL) -- The Quad Cities International Airport in Moline is thinking of having a commercial spaceport.

The Metropolitan Airport Authority Board of Commissioners approved plans in August to conduct a commercial spaceport planning study.

The spaceport is designed to launch and receive spacecrafts.

In a news release Thursday, the airport's public relations and marketing manager, Ashleigh Davis, said that the study will determine if a spaceport will even be possible to have.

She then adds that there is no agenda on how long the study will take.

More details are expected to be released at a later date.

The study is being funded through a $283,500 grant, 90% from the Illinois DOT.
