(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa Wild's season begins next month and crews are installing the ice surface at Wells Fargo Arena starting today, September 18th.
A Paint the Ice event is planned for this Wednesday, September 20th from 3-6 p.m.
Arena staff will begin covering the arena floor which is cooled by pipes that run underneath it. Thin layers of clear water and water mixed with white paint is applied until the surface is built up to about 1/2" with lines and advertisements painted onto the ice. The process continues with more layers until the ice is about 3/4" thick.
Fans will be able to paint their names inside lines and advertisements before the final product is filled in.
