(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Eastern Iowa Airport is buying a residential property near the airport where its groundwater tested positive for PFAS.
A University of Iowa professor tested almost 2 dozen wells between Linn and Johnson County in 2020, finding 14 of them tested positive for PFAS, also known as forever chemicals.
The property bought by the airport contained the highest level of PFAS recorded.
The property was approved to be bought for $1.1 million Monday, abbout 43% above the property's assessed value.
Current residents on the property can now rent from the airport for up to three years.
