Omaha Police Annual New Year's Eve Reminder

The Omaha Police Department and city government remind residents of the police zero tolerance of illegal gun use and its initiative to combat gun violence in the City of Omaha.

This Holiday Week between Christmas and New Year's they remind the public that discharging a firearm within Omaha city limits is not only illegal, but potentially deadly, and any violators will be arrested.

Police are also out with their New Year's fireworks ordinance.

City ordinance 20-320 says consumer fireworks may be discharged in Omaha from 5 p.m. on December 31st, New Year's Eve, through 1 a.m. on January 1st.

You must be 16 years or older to possess, use, or discharge consumer fireworks, but minors between 12-15 years old may discharge consumer fireworks if under the direct supervision of an adult who is at least 19 years old.

OPD says those found in violation of this ordinance risk being cited for a criminal violation.
