The City of Omaha’s 72nd Street project between F Street and I-80, is getting underway this Spring.
Engineers say improvements are to enhance capacity and safety while decreasing congestion.
The project will be done in phases.
Due to the traditionally high volume of traffic there, delays are expected, and drivers will be encouraged to look for alternate routes.
Northbound 72nd Street is anticipated to close in mid-April at L Street to through traffic as part of phase one.
Local access to businesses between L and F Streets will be maintained.
A full closure of 72nd Street northbound will be from F Street to just south of I-80.
Phase one is expected to last through the end of 2024.
Phase two work is planned to begin in early 2025, when 72nd Street will have one lane open to traffic in each direction through the construction zone.
Phase two construction is expected to last through the fall of 2025.
Construction schedules and operations are subject to change based on the weather.
