Des Moines Police are charging a man with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting at a Des Moines hotel.

31-year old Joshua Carmody is being charged in the death of 30-year old Sayvon Propps.

Police say Carmody forced his way into the room where Propps and an unidentified woman were staying on April 10th. He was then shot by Propps in self-defense, before Carmody returned fire and killed him.

He's now in custody at the Polk County Jail.

Police are continuing to investigate this case.
