(Rock Island, IL) -- Rock Island's new police chief says a gun found in a holding cell at the police station had likely been there for months.
Tim McCloud says a full investigation is underway after a student on a school tour of the station found the handgun hidden inside a pillow.
The chief says when not in use the cells remain locked.
He says the unloaded gun had been stolen during a burglary in Milan, Illinois in 2022.
