Omaha/Council Bluffs Area Floodwaters

The National Weather Service in Omaha says severe storms will again be possible into the early afternoon after severe thunderstorms early Tuesday morning.

The storms this morning dumped heavy rains leading to flooding including urban flooding in the Omaha Metro.

A Flood Warning for the Omaha/Council Bluffs area is in effect for flooding caused by excessive rainfall along the Papillion Creek system.

The area of concern is along parts of the Big Papillion and Little Papillion Creeks in Douglas, Sarpy, and Washington Counties.

While much of the flood control in the region will have Papillion Creek remain within its banks, some low-lying and flood-prone locations will experience flooding, like around 64th Avenue and Center Street, near one of the creek branches.

The weather service says turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads.

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
