(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police are investigating the seventh fatality vehicle crash of 2024, the first crash involving a pedestrian.
Police say that at approximately 11:53 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a report that a pedestrian and house had been struck in the 3900 block of 12th street, in the Oak Park Neighborhood. Officers later found 47-year-old Parreh Ngar in the roadway, suffering critical injuries. Ngar was later transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Police say the vehicle that struck Ngar is a 2003 Honda Accord, and was operated by 52-year-old Lwin Myint. According to a press release, Des Moines Police say investigators observed evidence indicating that Myint was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. Myint has since been arrested and charged with Homicide By Vehicle - OWI.
The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues the technical investigation of this crash. They say additional information will be shared as it becomes available for public release.
