Linn County Attorney's Office Reports Violent Crimes Rates Are Decreasing

(Linn County, IA) -- The Linn County Attorney's Office is reporting violent crimes rates are trending downward since spiking during the pandemic.

Linn County is seeing double-digit decreases in violent crime prosecution rates for homicides/attempted murders, willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, sexual abuse, kidnapping and false imprisonment, robbery, burglary, and child endangerment.

The office says homicide rates in Linn County are declining by more than 50% over the last two years, crimes like burglary are down 26%, robbery 40%, and sexual abuse 40%.

The county's brought 8 homicide defendants to justice in recent months.

The Attorney's Office is continuing to work on 18 more homicide trials over the rest of the year.
