(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is issuing a disaster proclamation for Avian Influenza in Cherokee County after a positive case is found in a commercial turkey flock. This is the second case of the year, with the first case being reported just last week, on May 28th, in a commercial chicken operation in Sioux County. The proclamation allows for state agencies to assist with monitoring and cleanup. According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, there are several measures livestock producers can take to help prevent infection in chicken and turkey flocks, along with preventive measures for dairy herds.
