(Newton, IA) -- Piles of wind turbine blades in Newton and Ellsworth are finally expected to be removed and recycled this summer.
An investigation into the piles was initiated by the Iowa Utilities Board and Iowa DNR, in cooperation with the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
A Washington company was hired in 2017 to recycle the blades, but instead stockpiled them.
A spokesperson for the city of Newton tells the Iowa Capital Dispatch the blades are expected to be cut up and hauled to Tennessee for recycling over the summer.
