Near-Drought Conditions Increase in Parts of Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A mostly dry week across parts of Iowa is increasing near-drought conditions.

The new US Drought Monitor Map shows more abnormally dry conditions in Southeast and Eastern Iowa.

Those parts of the state were not affected by storms that dropped considerable amounts of rain in Western and Central Iowa Monday night through Tuesday morning--some places seeing more than four inches.

This week's map does NOT factor in rain that fell anywhere in the state after weekly data was gathered Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says much of Iowa will see chances for more rain--some of it heavy--through the weekend.

Iowa has been drought-free since the end of May--after nearly four years of some level of drought somewhere in the state.
