Some Illinois Residents Could Get Their Medical Debt Forgiven

(Springfield, IL) -- Some Illinois residents could get their medical debt forgiven.

A new bill was signed into law last week that would see the state payoff the medical debt of people whose household income is below 400% of the federal poverty level, or have medical debt that totals more than 5% of their annual household income.

The state says that makes up 90-percent of Illinoisans with medical debt.
