(Iowa) -- A national personal finance website ranks Iowa near the bottom of the list of states where people are most financially stressed. WalletHub ranks Iowa 49th out of 50 in a national study of where people are experiencing the most financial distress. The study was based on multiple metrics, including:
- Credit score
- People with accounts in distress
- The average number of accounts in distress
- Change in number of bankruptcy filings between March of 2023 and March of 2024
- "Debt" search interest index
- "Loans" search interest index
Topping the list as the most financially stressed state is Michigan, and at the bottom of the list, just below Iowa, is New Jersey. The full study is available on WalletHub's website.
