(Dubuque, IA) - Testimony has begun in a trial of a Dubuque, Iowa man charged with killing his mother back in January, despite his refusal to participate in the case.
After a judge declined to drop first-degree murder charges against Tyler Dazey, he sent a letter to the court citing religious conviction as reason for refusing to appear.
Dazey initially confessed to Police that he killed his mother and the family dog while practicing witchcraft.
A judge ruled Dazey competent to stand trial in May.
