(Kossuth County, IA) -- Kyle Ricke, the man convicted of shooting and killing Algona police officer Kevin Cram in September of 2023, is requesting a new trial. On Monday, Ricke's defense team filed a motion, saying the Defendant "showed no prior animosity or desire to harm Officer Cram." The motion further states, "approximately 90 seconds passed from the time the Defendant left the presence of Officer Cram to the shots being fired which was not sufficient time for the Defendant to form malice aforethought or premeditation."

Ricke was convicted by a Dickinson County jury of first-degree murder last month. He's currently scheduled to be sentenced in the case on August 21st.
