(East Moline, IL) -- The city of East Moline is getting creative in trying to collect the new Places For Eating tax from the 40% of businesses who still aren't paying it. Eateries who pay both on time and online can get a 5% discount.
Terah Baldwin, owner of the East Moline Coffee Company tells WQAD News 8 that it may not seem like much, but it adds up.
The 1.5% Places For Eating tax went into effect in March.
East Moline council will hear final reading tonight on an ordinance to institute a $100 fine for businesses who don't comply with the new tax.
