(Mason City, IA) -- A northern Iowa man has been charged with animal neglect, after police say more than two dozen cats were found trapped in a hot van this week. Animal Rescue League staffers and Mason City Police removed 30 cats from the vehicle.

The ARL says their when their staffers opened the van doors, they found cats everywhere with no access to food and water. Tests showed ammonia levels inside the van were also dangerously high.

They're now undergoing treatment for a wide range of health issues. Andres Enrique Guilartes Martinez (64) is facing three counts of animal neglect.
